Amsterdam’s most undervalued ecologicaL HOTSPOTS
The City of Amsterdam is small, and very, very dense. As such, courtyards play an important social and ecological role in the inner city of Amsterdam. Particular initiatives, such as Amsterdam Rainproof, raise awareness amongst citizens and encourage them to remove tiles in their backyard and replace it with green. With these kinds of interventions, it is, of course, critical to understand where to start. However, surveying door-to-door to map the composition of every courtyard in Amsterdam is not an option. Therefore, we built a proof-of-concept with VHR imagery to visualize and analyze the composition of courtyards in Amsterdam.
